Behind every scholarship is a story of generosity, purpose, and impact. We are proud to highlight the Named and Endowed Scholarships—and the donors—who make opportunities possible for Johnston students.
Explore their stories and the lasting difference they are making.

Donor Name: David and Mary Moermond Scholarship
This scholarship is given in recognition of our deep connection to the Johnston community. We lived in the Johnston School District for over 30 years, and Mary taught French at Johnston High School for 35 years. We believe it is important to support the students in our district.
In memory of David, who returned to school at age 30 to earn both a BS and an MS in Civil Engineering, and who believed that investing in oneself is one of the most valuable investments a person can make.

Donor Name: David and Tammie Marshall
This scholarship was created as a meaningful way to honor Robin by helping students pursue their dreams. We believe scholarships are important because they give students the opportunity to follow their passions—especially those who aspire to become teachers.
Robin worked at a daycare and loved caring for her children nearly as much as they loved her. While she began her own journey toward becoming a teacher, she was unable to finish, and this scholarship is intended to help someone else pursue that dream in her memory.
We hope this scholarship encourages students to follow their passion for working with and supporting others.

Donor Name: Robert & Angelina Felice
This scholarship was created to help ensure financial barriers do not hinder student success, and to honor Angelina’s brother, Joseph.
Joseph lived by the simple belief that kindness costs nothing. He understood that everyone carries a hidden burden, and made it his daily mission to bring a moment of joy to every person he met.

Donor Name: Kurns Family
Sharon Kurns was a lifelong educator who worked for Heartland Area Education Agency.
Inspiring students to pursue careers in education was deeply important to her and remains a meaningful part of her lasting legacy.
This scholarship is a way to thank the Johnston community for educating our two children, in honor of their beloved mother, Sharon Kurns.

Donor Name: Morrill Family
This scholarship is given in honor of our mother, Jill Morrill, who loved and served the Johnston Community School District.
Though small in stature, Jill had a large and positive impact on everyone around her. Through her positivity and perseverance, she accomplished so much, and through this scholarship, we hope others are inspired to achieve great and meaningful things as well.

Charter Bank believes that investing in the future of Johnston students creates an immediate impact for graduating seniors, giving them the opportunity to pursue their goals.
We would love to help you create a scholarship that reflects your story, values, or honors someone meaningful.
