Dragon Scholarship Fund scholarships require students to complete six steps in a timely manner. Approximate deadlines will be provided for each step as the process progresses. It is important for students to read all the information below. Each step will require that the student enter the Johnston High School ID number, as this information will tie the 6 steps together for the DSF team.
The scholarship application must be completed and submitted online.

Applications are general open for 4-5 weeks from Mid December to Mid January each year. When open, the application link can be found here. It is important to retain the documentation from google drive that your application was submitted.
A Johnston High School staff member must complete the Student Appraisal online.
It is the student’s responsibility to request that the staff member complete the appraisal. It is recommended that the student:
Only one appraisal per student may be submitted using a Johnston High School staff email address.

In early February, all eligible students who completed step 1 and 2 in a timely manner, will receive an email with a link to SignUpGenius. This email will go to the non JHS email address that they provided in the application process (Step 1). The email will include all deadlines and applicable information.

Interviews will be held at Johnston High School.
Students must graduate from Johnston High School to receive a scholarship.
In late April, students will be notified of their scholarship award and amount via their personal email address (not their JDragon email).

This step is currently open and is required in order to receive your Dragon Scholarship Fund award.
You are now on the final step of the scholarship process. Please complete the Policy and Institution Intent Form by June 12 to ensure your scholarship funds are distributed. If a school has not yet been selected, the form must still be completed. Students may contact the committee later if their plans change.

Failure to complete this step by June 12 may result in forfeiture of your scholarship.
Note: The scholarship payment will be sent directly to the financial aid office of the college or university you designate in August 2026. If you defer enrollment until the second semester, funds will be issued in January 2027. Please note that scholarships cannot be extended beyond January 2027. We also encourage you to check with your institution regarding any potential matching funds.
All scholarship recipients are expected to send a thank-you note to their scholarship donor.
The donor’s name and mailing address will be included in your award email.
All six steps must be completed in order to qualify for a scholarship. Failure to complete any steps by the deadlines will result in forfeiture of the scholarship.
The Johnston Dragon Scholarship Fund Awards Committee reserves the right to disqualify any applicant if an application is incomplete, fraudulent, or if other circumstances compromise the integrity of the application process.
